PPPP - House Pizzeria

Continuing on the pizza hunt is another local Austin establishment, House Pizzeria.  Though not hidden in a sub division, House Pizzeria is also easy to miss on the side of the road with a dim lit sign.  Going inside, the building is quite quaint.  Internally, it's dimly lit with a jukebox as the music source.  As an aside, I must say jukeboxes are pretty cool.  Anyways, at 12", the pizzas from House Pizzeria land on the smaller side, good for one or two meals at most for most people.  That said, at $9 pre tax, the price is somewhat normal for a non-chain pizza place.  But enough about the small things let's get a look at this pizza.

For an initial look, it looks to be a pretty standard thin crust pizza.  So instead of talking about how it looks, how about I talk about how it tastes?

Overall, the pizza is decent.  The shining star of House Pizzeria's pizza in my opinion is their sauce.  Really flavorful with a good amount of herbs, the sauce stands out over the rest of the pizza.  The crust was somewhat lackluster with a strong floury/wheaty taste and a bit too dense for this type of pizza.  The cheese and pepperoni were largely forgettable.  The sauce however did stand out.

Since only the sauce stood out, let's talk about how the pizza handled being cold/reheated.  As far as cold pizzas go, House Pizzeria's pizza does a good job.  The crust is incredibly tough and still super dense, but the rest of the pizza almost tastes better cold than fresh.  When it comes to microwaving, the pizza gains more of a pepperoni taste and obviously the crust becomes a soft mess as with all pizza.  When reheated in the oven, the crust crisps up making it largely more enjoyable than cold or microwaved, and even in my opinion, better than fresh though still floury/wheaty.

In my opinion, House Pizzeria makes a pretty good pizza overall.  I could do with having some better toppings and cheese but the sauce largely makes up for those discrepancies.  If I could have a less strongly floury/wheaty tasting crust that would be ideal.  If I gave Little Deli and Pizzeria a 3.5-4 out of 5. I would have to give House Pizzeria a 3-3.5, not incredibly worse but definitely not as exciting in my opinion.  With that, the second pizza review is done.  Look forward to more.  Until next time.
